Public Speaking Workshop "Enterprise"


Objective:

The workshop is designed for people looking to acquire the skills needed for effective speaking in public through a series of practical exercises. Our “Enterprise” workshop covers all of the topics included in our “Professional” workshop, but adds numerous practical exercises that enable you to test the learned skill right away.

You will get twelve opportunities to speak before the group and get professional feedback on your performances. Through our exercises, we will help you identify your strong points as a speaker, as well as, help you master those aspects that need improvement.

The workshop covers key approaches to speech writing and techniques of effective delivery. As a bonus, basic techniques of “Smalltalk” will also be covered in this training.


Format:

The workshop is conducted as three 7-hour sessions and involves eight to ten participants. During the course of the workshop, participants are required to deliver twelve speeches (see below).

 

The workshop is conducted by experienced professionals that bring valuable industry experience. Additionally, materials used in our workshops are based on teachings of Dale Carnegie and self-development techniques of NLP.

Homework assignments are to be prepared for each workshop session. The instruction is done in English, but questions and speech deliveries in French are allowed.


Program:

Session 1
 
  • General Introduction
  • "Um" Impromptu Speech – warm up exercise; participants are required to improvise on a given topic without ever using "paraside" words
  • “Let's Draw” game – activity designed to demonstrate how listeners tend to understand message of the speaker
  • Listening skills – what prevents people from listening to others and how to deal with this
  • Listening skills test - self-evaluation test, designed to identify participant's weak points when it comes to listening
  • Fear of speaking – why are we afraid of speaking and how to overcome our fear
  • Exercise for fear management – participants practice an NLP techniques designed to help reduce fear when speaking in public
  • Techniques of delivery – how to deliver a speech successfully
  • Eye Contact Exercise – participants practice an effective technique to improve eye contact during speech delivery
  • Truth/Lie Impromptu Speech - participants are required to tell a brief personal story and using non-verbal communication convince the audience of its truthfulness or falsehood
  • Introduction Speech – participants deliver their first prepared speech
  • Organizing a speech – how to properly organize and write a speech
  • Topic selection – how to correctly select a topic of your speech
  • Outline Drafting Exercise – activity designed to help participants improve their speech organization (structure)
  • Using research in speech – how to provide supporting evidence in your speeches
  • Topic brainstorming – exercise in topic selection (for prepared speeches in sessions 2 and 3)
  • Mind Map Exercise – alternative approach to outline drafting; this activity is designed to help the participants organize their ideas for the final speech

Session 2
 
  • Brief session 1 review
  • Promotion Impromptu Speech - participants work in pairs, preparing an improvise presentation aimed to promote each other for a given job position
  • Different modes of speaking – how to deal with improvised speech vs prepared one
  • Manuscript Analysis Exercise – exercise designed to help participants build a “visual” presentation strategy from a prewritten speech text
  • Famous speech – participants are required to deliver from a manuscript an excerpt of a famous speech
  • Different purposes of speaking – how our delivery is varied based on the purpose of our speech
  • Serial Speech– participants are required to improvise a funny story; the story is began by the instructor and has to be further continued by each participant
  • ”Angry” Speech– participants are required to deliver a highly dramatic and emotional improvised speech, using verbal and non-verbal techniques of delivery
  • Using visual aids – how to use visual aids in your speech delivery
  • Persuasive Speech – participants deliver their second prepared speech
  • Rehearsal techniques – how to practice your speech to delivery successfully
  • Delivering in foreign language – do’s and dont’s of speech organization and delivery in the language, which is not native to you
  • Homework Review
Session 3
 
  • Brief session 2 overview
  • Job Interview speech – participants are asked to go through an improvised job interview
  • Storytelling techniques – how to effectively deliver speeches that involve jokes or dialogs
  • Joke speech – participants present a joke or a short story that involves a dialog with two or more characters
  • Speaking Competition Speech – participants are asked to deliver improvised speeches in pairs; two people will present on the same topic at the same time!
  • Video Speech Analysis– several recorded speeches by famous speakers will be analyzed by the instructor and the participants
  • Topics Review – brief review of the topics covered in the workshop
  • Final speech – participants present their third prepared speech
  • The Art of Smalltalk – brief review of the key techniques needed for effective smalltalk
  • “Can I have your number?” – exercise, allowing participants to practice newly learned smalltalk techniques
  • Workshop conclusion
